It looks beyond Darwin's accomplishments to find a number of colorful characters whose discoveries of new species have transformed our lives in ways we scarcely recognize. The writer is Richard Conniff, author of The Species Seekers: Heroes, Fools, and the Mad Pursuit of Life on Earth.

  • Environmental Sciences, Climate Change
    • Dot Earth is a blog about climate change, the environment and sustainability by The New York Times's reporter Andrew C. Revkin.

  • General Science in relation to the Earth Sciences
    • The Great Beyond is a blog that gathers science news from around the world. It is hosted by Nature.
    • Scientist at Work is a great blog where various authors describe their activity in the field and in the lab. It is hosted by the New York Times.
